A Foundation for Better Healthcare
The Health Allyship Foundation advances community-based primary care by educating the public on its value and supporting practices that provide true access, continuity, and coordination of care.
Our Mission
Primary care has deteriorated over the past decades. When measured by ease of access and continuity of care, fewer people have access to a primary care physician. Those who do have less access to their primary provider at any given office visit.
We believe that the interpersonal relationship between provider and patient is the foundation of good healthcare. Our mission is to support practices that prioritize this relationship while remaining accessible to everyone in our community.
“The community must be involved. Good providers and staff cannot maintain care over time without support beyond the practice itself.”
— Dr. William Teubl, Founder
Our Vision
The Foundation advances community-based primary care by educating the public on its value and supporting the development of practices that provide true access, continuity, and coordination of care.
A primary provider needs 20 to 30 minutes with a patient. This allows time to renew the relationship, put patients at ease, and truly listen to their concerns.
Both practice size and schedule should allow for ready access. Patients should be able to see their provider within a week, with adequate time devoted to their needs.
Primary care is given both in encounters with patients and in communication between encounters. We support the infrastructure needed for ongoing, responsive care.
A robust primary care system is possible when three sources of funding work together:
Billing for documented encounters with patients
Affordable contributions that support the work between visits
Contributions to offset costs for those who cannot pay and enhance practice capabilities
Our Approach
Unlike concierge medicine, our supported practices keep monthly fees modest—around $30—to remain accessible to more community members.
The foundation fills the gap by promoting the value of primary care, soliciting community contributions, and supporting practices that provide the access and coordination of care that our community needs.
This initiative must begin with those of us who make this region our home. Government and large organizations might help at some point, but the foundation must be built by our community.
Mission in Action
The Health Ally program is one of the ways the Health Allyship Foundation puts its mission into action. A Health Ally is a trained patient advocate who meets people in clinics, specialist offices, and community health settings. Their role is to listen, offer guidance, and help individuals navigate the real barriers that get in the way of good health: financial pressures, confusing options, and feeling like no one has the time to truly hear them.
Health Allies don't provide clinical care. They provide something just as important: a consistent, trusted presence that helps patients feel supported and informed.
We partner with local healthcare facilities to bring this program into their environments, working alongside their teams to better understand community health needs and ensure patients have the support to make confident decisions about their care.
If you're a healthcare facility interested in exploring a partnership or an individual interested in becoming an ally, we'd love to connect.
